A brand strategist, consultant and author who dedicates himself to brands…

After graduating one of the top-notch high school of Istanbul, Kabatas High School, Hakan graduated from Institute of Natural and Applied Science in University of Istanbul with a MSc degree in Engineering on Industrial Raw Materials. He completed this master degree with a scholarship from “The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey”. Hakan’s business career commenced in R&D projects of Ceramic Raw Materials in Ezcacibasi Industrial Raw Materials Inc that belongs one of the most contemporary conglomerate of Turkey.

After years, Hakan’s engineering career turned to strategy in branding and he worked as “Head of Strategy” in two well-known international agencies in Istanbul; ArtGroup Istanbul – Interpartners (currently FCB International) and Havas Istanbul Digital Advertising Agency.

In the very beginning of his advertising career, he completed Contemporary Management post-graduate study in joint programme of University of Maine – College of Business Administration (USA) & University of Marmara (Turkey).

During Hakan’s brand strategy career in advertising industry, he conceived various strategies for more than hundred global and Turkish blue-chip companies such as Procter&Gamble, Turkish Airlines, Roche, Sony Ericsson, Turkcell, Koc Holding, Sabanci Holding, Ulker, Tansas, Ziraat Bankasi, Dışbank, AEG-Electrolux, Barilla, Skoda, Mazda, Siemens Business Services, Oriflame, Arcelik, Blomberg, Grundig, etc. He accomplished a great many genuine brand strategies for those brands. Throughout his advertising career, he created Turkey’s first brand strategy model GUIDEFISH in his work in ArtGroup Istanbul – Interpartners and first digital strategy planning model DEEP (Digital Effectiveness & Efficiency Plan) in Havas Istanbul Digital Advertising Agency.

In 2012, Hakan established his own brand strategy consultancy company GENUINE STRATEGIES | SENBIR and created a brand strategy model “MUST” which manifests Market Attractiveness > Unlock Growth > Solution Generation > Tracking in its flow of execution.. Since then, with this model, Hakan has been accomplishing genuine strategies for genuine brands such as Yapı Kredi Bank – Unicredit (Turkish-Italian joint venture), COLIN’S (Turkish jeans brand), MUTLU Battery of METAIR International Batteries (Republic of South Africa), Azercell (Azerbaijan’s leading GSM network), Coca Cola, HAVELSAN (The leading governmental software and systems company of Turkey), Vakifbank (second biggest governmental bank of Turkey), Yatsan (Turkish bedding company), VESTEL (second biggest durables of Turkey), Turk Telecom (Turkey) TT Net (Broadband supplier of Turkey), Pfizer, Abdi İbrahim (leading pharmaceutical company of Turkey), ILKO Pharmaceutical (Turkey), ASAS (leading aluminium producer of Turkey) Vatan Computer, (second biggest technology market of Turkey), Crate&Barrel (Homeware company of USA), LUKOIL (Russian energy supplier), British-American Tobacco, Turkish Exporters Assembly and Istanbul 2020 Olympic Games Candidate City.

Throughout his academic career, Hakan lectured in Yeditepe, Bilgi and Kadir Has universities on brand strategies.

Hakan is a writer in BrandMap magazine and wrote five books so far: “Queen of Cities”, “Is Z the last man?”, “Strategy for every struggling man?”, “On Advertising” and “On Strategy”.

Hakan speaks Turkish, English and Italian.

Hakan has been running Brand Consultancy business since 2012 and accomplishing genuine strategies for companies from Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and England. He is based in the U.K. since 2017.

Between 2009-2011, Hakan worked as a member of Executive Committee who was responsible of brand strategy. He created Turkey’s first digital advertising strategy model named D.E.E.P (Digital Effectiveness and Efficiency Plan) for Project House and managed the training programme of D.E.E.P in the agency.

Lecturer @ University of Yeditepe & University of Bilgi & University of Kadir Has in Istanbul

Between 1999 – 2016, Hakan worked as a Lecturer in the above universities on Branding, Marketing and Communication Strategies.

Between 2011-2013, Hakan worked as Head of Brand Strategy of SAGA Team that operated the overall process of Istanbul 2020 Candidate City preparations.

Between 1991 – 2009, Hakan worked as a Brand Strategist and finally as Vice President & Member of Executive Committee who was responsible of brand strategy and new business development. During his work in Art Group, he created Turkey’s first brand strategy model named GUIDEFISH and managed the training programme of the model in the agency.

Research Engineer @ Eczacibasi Industrial Minerals Inc.

Between 1985-1987, he worked as a research engineer for ceramic raw materials in Istanbul, Bilecik and Mugla in order to supply the expected products for foreign and local markets.
